Becoming A Member

Many residents are not aware that Mattapoisett's Fire and Rescue services are provided by trained "on-call" firefighters. The Mattapoisett Fire Department is always looking for new members. In 2010 we responded to 529 emergency calls for service. This total includes responding to numerous types of incidents such as structure fires, motor vehicle fires, brush fires, motor vehicle accidents, med-flight requests, hazardous material incidents and fire alarm calls.

We are staffed as a paid on-call fire department comprised of a full-time Fire Chief, full-time Fire Inspector / Fire Officer, twenty five Firefighters, two Junior Firefighters, and one part-time secretary. The ongoing selfless dedication of our on-call staff continues to impress and function with professionalism and pride.

We are committed to providing the highest level of emergency services, fire suppression, rescue and public fire education while protecting life, property and the environment.

No Experience?

If you are committed to give something back to your community, we will train you. Each member of our fire department is sent to the Massachusetts Fire Academy at no cost. This academy is a four month program, offered once a year and  is held two nights a week and one day on the weekend. While in the academy, recruits receive classroom instruction, practical skill training and live fire fighting experience. Upon successful completion, each firefighter will become a full member of the Mattapoisett Fire Department and assigned to an Engine Company.

If you think you would like to become a member and join this dedicated group, applications are available at the Mattapoisett Fire station.
