Storm Procedures
NOTICE TO ALL MATTAPOISETT RESIDENTS...

The following Emergency Procedures will take effect in the event of a hurricane in Mattapoisett:


2-3 Days Prior to Storm

I. Parking Two (2) to three (3) days prior to an impending hurricane, the following parking ban will take effect: no parking on both sides of North Street between Church Street and Water Street; no parking on both sides of Water Street and Main Street, between North Street and Route 6. No parking signs will be posted by the Mattapoisett Police Department. (see map below)

II. Traffic Flow

1. All traffic along Water and Main Streets will flow one way, from North Street to Church Street, in a northwesterly direction. All side streets will be barricaded.

2. The following streets will be barricaded to traffic at Church Street: Mechanic Street, Cannon Street, Pearl Street, and Barstow Street

3. Ned's Point Road will become one way from Holly Lane to Old Marion Rd. Any person needing to get to the Mattapoisett Boat Yard must park elsewhere and walk to the boat yard.

Ill. Wharf

1. Access to the wharf will be limited to emergency personnel and vehicle hauling boat trailers.

No other vehicles will be allowed on the wharf.

2. Boats up to 20 (twenty) feet may be hauled out at the Town Landing at the appropriate tide. The Town Landing is located off Mattapoisett Neck Road.


4-8 Hours Prior to Storm

IV. Emergency Evacuation

Residents living in flood-prone areas are advised to evacuate before flooding occurs. Once these areas become flooded, telephone lines may be down and there may be a delay in emergency response service. The following areas are known to flood severely: Crescent Beach, Leisure Shores, Mattapoisett Neck at Town Landing, Molly's Cove, Harbor Beach, Brandt Island, Pico Beach, The Cedars, and lower Aucoot Road.

The Police Department will notify residents to evacuate 4 to 8 hours prior to the storm. Residents are urged to comply with the Police Department's evacuation warning.

V. Shelters

Emergency shelters will be set up at Old Rochester Regional High School and the Mattapoisett Fire Station. The Town Nurse will be on duty for anyone requiring medical attention Any person taking prescription drugs must be certain to bring all medications to shelter.


2-4 Hours Prior to Storm

VI. Water Department

The following areas will be isolated and will NOT have water for drinking or fire protection: 1. Mattapoisett Neck south of Town Landing; 2. Harbor Beach; 3. 42 Prospect Road, south through Crescent Beach, Point Connett, Cove Street, and Nye's Cove; 4. Pico Beach; 5. Pease's Point, from Third Street south.


During Storm

VII. Wharf

No one will be allowed ANYWHERE on the wharf.

VIII. Roads

All roads that are prone to flooding will be CLOSED for the duration of the storm, (Refer to Emergency Evacuation).


After Storm

Areas where destruction and flooding have occurred will be CLOSED to ALL traffic except emergency personnel. Property owners and residents of these areas may obtain passes to access their property. Passes will be available at Town Hall.
