Transportation Procedures
The Mattapoisett COA welcomes medical transportation requests from all town residents. Individuals are asked to call to schedule transportation as early as possible, but at least two business days prior to the appointment. All names and other information are kept confidential. If the transportation request does not require a handicap accessible vehicle and the appointment is within the area (e.g., Fairhaven, Wareham, New Bedford), the information is referred to FISH and a volunteer driver is scheduled. This driver then calls the client to verify the appointment. All FISH transportation is free of charge and donations/tips are not accepted.
If a FISH driver is not available, the appointment requires a special vehicle or is a long-distance trip, the information is passed over to the COA van scheduler. The COA will attempt to schedule an appropriate vehicle for the client and then call the client back to confirm the appointment. If transportation occurs with a COA van, a small donation is requested to help with the costs of fuel, van maintenance and driver rate.
