The Friends of the Elderly of Mattapoisett, Inc. was organized in 1990 as the fundraising arm of Council on Aging. The organization is a means of providing additional monies to carry out various social programs and events for seniors in Mattapoisett. The Friends of the Elderly of Mattapoisett, Inc. currently has 173 members as well as a Board of Directors consisting of 19 members. The Board meets on the first Monday of each month at 3 p.m. at the Mattapoisett Social and Wellness Center located within the Center School on Barstow Street in Mattapoisett.
Now in its 17th year, some of the projects of Friends of the Elderly of Mattapoisett, Inc. over the years have included a $ 10,000 donation toward a van for the Mattapoisett Council on Aging and, for the Social and Wellness Center, a large screen television set with a specially designed cabinet, purchase of a digital camera, copy machine, office furniture and other office items. The Friends of the Elderly also supply the Social and Wellness Center with coffee, tea, and other supplies.
The Friends of the Elderly of Mattapoisett, Inc. arrange and fund three parties each year. These parties include a Holiday Party, a St. Patrick’s Day Party and an Annual Summer Picnic. The Friends of the Elderly also hold several special interest groups that are open to all members including the Garden Group, Crafts Group, Sunshine Committee and Movie Chairperson.

Shaw's Receipt Reward Program:
The Friends of the Elderly ask for you Participation in the Shaw's Receipt Reward Program.
Simply drop off your Shaw’s Supermarket Receipts at the COA Social and Wellness Center or, at the Mattapoisett Town Hall and help the Friends of the Elderly earn 1% cash rewards. These rewards will be used in the Friends endeavors to serve the seniors of Mattapoisett.
